HARVEY Family History
This ancient surname, which is one of the earliest on record, is of English and Irish origin. It is also well recorded in Scotland, although the origin is as for England. The name has two possible sources, the first being from the Breton personal name "Aeruiu" or "Haerviu", composed of the elements "haer", meaning battle, and "vy", - worthy. The 1086 Domesday has various references to followers of William the Conqueror, including Herueu de Berruarius of Suffolk, and later Heuei de Castre of Lincoln, in 1157. These were not surnames, although in fact the first surname recording as shown below was only just behind...More HARVEY family history

Harvey
I am looking for great - great -great grandfather Ira Harvey. He wife name is Elizabeth. We find he was born later 1818 or early 1820. He has a son name Charles who lived here in Onondaga, Ontario Canada where he started his family. I can't find when he died or where he is buried. I am hoping for some help.

Trying to find out more about my Dad / Grandfather's family. He was John William 'Lug' Harvey and lived in Wandsworth around the turn of the 19th century. We believe his father also John Harvey has links to/was from Ireland but can't find any sources. Sadly my Grandad died before I was born and never spoke about his childhood to my Dad. He didn't get on with his step dad so joined the Navy aged 17. Would have been around 1907 so served in First World War. We do have photos of him in an Irish folk band wearing a rosette and sash but can't tell the colour as it's a black and white photo. My Dad knew his dad was in a band in Wandsworth, SW London but not much more than that. Sadly all my relatives have passed, including my Dad so I have no one to ask so hope someone on here can help! Thank you!
