DAUBNEY Family HistoryThis uncommon surname is of Old French origin, and is a variant of the ancient and distinguished Daubeney, itself a locational name (with the fused preposition "de"), from any of the various places in northern France including: Aubigne (Brittany), and Aubigny (Normandy), so called from the Gallo-Roman personal name "Albinius" (a derivative of "albus", white), with the locational suffix "-acum", village, settlement. The surname was introduced into England by the Normans during the Conquest of 1066, and the first recorded namebearer (below), was an attendant of William the Conqueror.
