Six Nations Rugby – The Irish Experience
A visit to Ireland is nothing without a taste of the world-renowned Irish-party experience, and there is no better atmosphere than that found when the Irish rugby team come out to play. If rugby is your sport of choice then make sure that you come to the party of the year and watch the Six Nations Championship games of 2010.
Perhaps Ireland is not able to claim a world-footing in the majority of sports, but when it comes to rugby they are a force to be reckoned with- regardless of where in the world the opposing team hail.
The whole of Ireland goes party-mad when their rugby team comes out to play on the world stage, and the Six Nations Championship 2010 is the party of the year as far as sport is concerned. This year the Irish Rugby team are set to make formidable opponents.
Just as the daffodils come out and the leaves begin to green, so to do our rugby boys, to face the giants of world rugby; the French, English, Italian, Scottish and Welsh.
As usual, Ireland will be playing all their home matches in Croke Park, Dublin City, for the 2010 Six Nations Championship.
Two home matches to look out for are the Ireland vs. Wales match on the 13th of March 2010, and the Ireland vs. Scotland match on the 20th of March 2010. Even for those of you being dragged along to one of these events against your will, you will find Croke Park an experience in itself- it is one of Europe’s largest sporting stadiums, holding a massive 82,000 people (and that’s on a quiet day!); it ranks in size only behind Camp Nou, home of the Barcelonan football team, Wembley Stadium, home of the England national football team, and the Olimpiysky National Sports Complex home of the Ukraine national football team.
For all you hardened rugby fans wishing to experience the true taste of Irish rugby, car hire from Dublin airport should be an essential holiday addition, as a trip to Ireland without a trip to Limerick city is an unfulfilling trip for any ardent rugby fan – Limerick City is, after all, the spiritual birthplace for Irish rugby. Thomond Park, home to the Munster Rugby team has benefitted from a recent redevelopment project, which has seen the stadiums capacity double to a massive 26,500. A trip to Thomond Park is well worth it.
